Tax Exempt StatusPortage Lake Center PTO is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. 501(c) is a provision of the United States Internal Revenue Code listing 27 types of non-profit organizations exempt from some federal income taxes. Under IRS's IRC Section 170, individuals giving to 501(c)(3) organizations may deduct contributions if the individual itemizes on their tax returns
PTO AllocationsThe largest portion of the budget supports field trips for our students. The PTO provides allocations to purchase class room supplies and additional supplies as requested by LCE staff. PTO funds are also utilized to finance family events and fun nights. Remaining funds include staff appreciation, summer enrichment, & media center supplies.
Administrative costs are held to a minimum and include insurance & copies. LCE PTO must pay MI Sales Tax on all fundraiser sales. The tax is paid from the individual fundraiser, but the expense is shown separate for accounting purposes. |
