Battle of the Books
Thank you to all 123 student participants in Battle of the Books, PTO Chairs Tonya Szafranski and Sonja Staples, and the 37 coaches who donated their time to help make this program a success!!
We had 20 teams this year and they all did a wonderful job. We are so proud of each and every team. The goal of BOB is to read new books and to encourage a love of reading. We think all the teams met this goal.
Our top three finishers in the battle were: Super Pickles, The Page Princesses, and Among the Bookworms. Super Pickles and The Page Princesses moved on to the Grand Battle, hosted at Woodland.
Thank you to all the parents, teachers and kids who braved the snowy conditions that night. Woodland came away with first place, but our teams worked hard and made it a tough fight.
Congrats to everyone in the program and to Mrs. Frieben's class, the recipient of the $25 book incentive for the BOB grand battle. Thank you to 5th grade teachers (all attended:), Mary Zesiger for creating our logo and printing the shirts, Shana Wartner for the BOB banner, Jen Welch for the team photos,
PTO for funding this program, Guest MC Mrs. Evans, Staci Andrews, the coordinator at Woodland, for helping us start this program last year, and those who came out to cheer everyone on.

The "Digital Life:
Our Kids' Connected Culture" workshop
Jessica Winstanley, Technology Integration Specialist for PPS and a LCE parent, is inviting all elementary parents to learn more about technology through our district programming. Please join us for their 1st parent workshop Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 6:00 pm in
North Middle School's Little Theater.
This workshop will provide an overview of kids' digital lives, as well as some concrete tips for parents to help you guide your children as they explore the media and technology landscape.

Portage Lake Center PTO prepares a student directory to help families keep in touch.
All parents/guardians must complete a directory form for each child. Forms will be distributed the first week of school.

Our Children - Our Future
LCE PTO Ice Cream Social
Thursday May 1st.
6:00pm to 8:30pm
This is a FREE event for LCE families at LCE Elementary
Teachers will be serving up ice cream and there are activities.

The weather and participation was fantastic this year!!
The primary fundraiser for the Lake Center PTO will be a “Walk a thon” type event.The event is called the Lake Center Turtle Trot.
We do not plan to participate in any catalog sales programs during this school year.
The Turtle Trot will take place on Friday September 27th during school (Rain date:Oct 4th). Prior to the event, Students will solicit pledges from family, friends and neighbors for a fixed amount or for the number of laps traveled around the track.
After the event, Students will collect donations and win great prizes.

Family Night at Jungle Joes

This is a family event. Supervision required.
-No drop offs-
LCE families have an hour and half block to jump.
The cost is $6.00 per child & $2.00 for adults who jump.

It takes a village to raise a child ! All parents and teachers are automatically members of our PTO. Being involved with the PTO is a wonderful way to support your school,and your child's education.
